A client commissioned me to construct a cabinet to hide an unsightly radiator (and to increase its efficiency by redirecting heat into the room instead of up the wall!). Constructed of tulip wood with an English oak top, traditional joinery is used throughout.

The cabinet had to fitted around existing pipework and therefore could not be free-standing, but still needed to have the facility to be easily removed so as to expose the radiator for cleaning and servicing.

Below, the left hand view shows the attachment to the lath and plaster wall.

One locating dowel each side enables the entire cabinet (apart from the permanently fixed wall uprights) to be removed from the wall. This was achieved using dry mortices, the top being laminated to prevent splitting over time by repeated removal and replacement of the cabinet over the years
